Iron SkySome of you might have read about this, most of you have probably not.

Iron Sky, an internet crowd-sourced movie, which has taken about 6 years to complete, finally has a date for its premiere.

It will launch at the Berlin International Film Festival this Saturday.

The movie is a Sci-fi comedy created by companies in Germany and in Australia. The funding for the movie has mainly been generated by the community giving its support to this movie, through its website, merchandising store and the use of social networks.

The plot is quite challenging, here’s a summary:

Towards the end of World War II the Nazi scientists made a significant breakthrough in anti-gravity. From a secret base built in the Antarctic, the first Nazi spaceships were launched in late ‘45 to found the military base Schwarze Sonne (Black Sun) on the dark side of the Moon. This base was to build a powerful invasion fleet and return to take over the Earth once the time was right.

Now it’s 2018, and it’s the time for the first American Moon landing since the 70′s. Meanwhile the Nazi invasion, that has been over 70 years in the making, is on its way, and the world is goose-stepping towards its doom.

Due to a trip last week for work to sunny Ingerlund, the activity on this web has been close to the English temperature.

I’m back now and have an enormous list of “starred items” in my G-reader. Just that I was not here, does not mean anything interesting happened… ainnit?

To start, a couple of the movies that are being presented on this years Sundance festival. Thanks to the people of io9.com who pointed this out.

(The event, I mean. Here in Europe there is not a lot of noise around Sundance at all).

Another Earth

I have to admit that the trailer does not really look too appealing, but I really like the concept.

How would you and the rest of the people react when another earth shows in the sky?

The reviews leave the movie a bit bad though. Too long, dramatic and focussing on the family drama instead of the effects of discovering Earth 2.

Perfect Sense

A chef and a scientist fall in love as an epidemic begins to rob people of their sensory perceptions. I have seen the trailer. I am not sure if it does the movie any credit. It looks a bit boring, but the overall critics have been quite enthusiastic.

Eva Green in a lab-coat is definitively a plus.

planeta_prohibido_Anne_Francis

Anne Francis, an actress well known for her 1950s appearance in several interesting productions and made fame in the classic sci-fi movie “Forbidden Planet” has died at age 80.

The movie “Forbidden Planet” is mentioned by many people one of the greatest movies of the Golden age of the sci-fi genre in which a starship crew goes to investigate the silence of a planet’s colony only to find two survivors and a deadly secret that one of them has.

From where I am sitting, I can see at least 10 colleagues being very busy… Playing either chess, or online monopoly. The work I am doing now is basically finishing stuff that I had lying around for ages. This is the perfect period for that.

There are some moments of distraction though… required distraction. Here is a small portion of today’s most interesting “busy” places:

Since last year has been a bit “the rise of the zombies” with the success of the Walking Dead, this is a quite entertaining and themed end-of-the-year distraction.

Stainboy

It all started with a single tweet: “Stainboy, using his obvious expertise, was called in to investigate mysterious glowing goo on the gallery floor”. After that, the story is invented and co-written by manny people on twitter, which resulted in this weird but funny story.

Happy Newyear!

Nice short, that, even though the storyline is … minimal, looks impressive. Made with no money, just a little time and a lot of passion as the creators BC2010 write on their Vimeo page.

Now we know that we will have a very dark night tonight, a Lunar eclipse and Solstice at the same time. I wondering what movie is on at the moon tonight….

The movie Iron Sky, that is being produced in a low budget DIY style, has probably found a way to finance part of the production.

On their website, http://www.ironsky.net you can buy a “volunteer movie ticket” for minimal 1€ to watch the first 5 minutes of the footage that’s coming out between now and the next 12 months.

The money is not to watch it, at least not directly, as it will be a coming out in parts. So you’ll actually be paying for the not yet existing minutes of the movie.

The concept of the movie started as a kind of joke on YouTube, and is evolving in a full cinematic production. This is the storyline:

Towards the end of World War II the Nazi scientists made a significant breakthrough in anti-gravity. From a secret base built in the Antarctic, the first Nazi spaceships were launched in late ‘45 to found the military base Schwarze Sonne(Black Sun) on the dark side of the Moon.
