On the CR-48 laptop Google launched for a lucky group of testing-people last week there was a surprise for most when they opened the lid and found that the Caps Lock key was missing.
I am a user of that key. Even though accidentally! It happens to me quite a lot that instead of the shift I hit the Caps Lock… Well… That’s the price of using different keyboards every day.
Because of that, I believe that removing that key wouldn’t hurt anyone and that it could be used for something more useful.
I’ve been thinking a bit on what uses this key can get, Here’s my list:
Next Tab (CTRL-tab)
Somehow I got the alt-tab to switch between open windows pretty much under control, but I never managed to get used to Ctrl-tab.
Enable/Disable Bluetooth/External Monitor
Use Knife
Mainly the melee or knife action in 3d FPS games is located in a crappy location the E, The F and I even found it under the k once.

Aside from the fact that this is a key hard to find on the Spanish keyboard layout, (Alt gr + `) This key s also used in some games to switch weapons. Either using the mouse scroll, or Caps Lock would be an improvement.
Boss Key
I really don’t need a boss key. Many of my colleagues do. Why they do? Because I can see their screen, and it ain’t pretty! You could make the Caps Lock close all open windows and open a “work related” browser-tab/document/…
These are just a handful of ideas, anyone has more?
