Quantcast

Finally! I managed to pick up the last film that I made with the Pinhole camera after the last modifications I made to it.

As you can read on the Pinhole Photography Experiments page, I made a few modifications to it. The main one being a new and smaller pinhole (now approx Ø 0.3mm). The results are visible and the sharpness of the photos is now a lot better. Also I can now compare well the timings and the results to see how far off the timings are. Strangely I need a lot less time for the better pictures (more definition and nicer colors).

I have added the page from my notebook here so you can have a look at the time calculations and light situations these pictures where made in.

EA Games posted a set of videos on YouTube with an interesting look at the new GlassBox Game Engine, the software that will make the new SimCity run. This new game engine will allow the players to run the simulation from the city to the actual inhabitants level. Another new feature is that you will be able to play this game on multi-player, allowing you to build a city, or several connected cities with your friends.

Here’s the first one:

Looks good. Especially the underlying complexity makes me think this will be a great addition to the series!

more information on the game itself: http://www.simcity.com

If you feel like giving the original SimCity (now called Micropolis) a go, here’s the Facebook page. You can either play it online or download the game.

Here’s an interesting DIY Project for the weekend! From the hands of Crap is Good I found a well documented project for a real-world animated GIF player.

It contains a bit of electronics, but nothing too scary. Have fun!

I’ll be having a look if I can achieve a similar device with LEGO Mindstorms.

This year, Google’s science fair teams up with LEGO Mindstorms. The Google Science fair, although limited to the younger among us, always generates a great list of good and innovative ideas.

This year, sponsored by LEGO Mindstorms, we will hopefully see some more applications of Mindstorms in the field of science. Sign up is ending the end of this month (for all you that are, or have kids that are between 14 and 18 years old).

There are some really nice projects and videos with background information from this one and previous Science Fairs, on the Science Fair Youtube channel.

This is definitively the project I’d like to see the instructions for in  Makezine!

I mean… Need I add more?
