As you can see from the footer in this blog, I’ve (finally) managed to upgrade to version 3.0 of the WordPress Platform.
Due to some server time-out problems I talked about before, this has been a bit more complicated than I expected.
The problem: Very slow response times from my free server at 000webhost.com.
I tried to update to wordpress 3 by using the automated upgrade option. This, however, left my site unreachable. I had to copy everything back. The only way to make this work is to completely upload the html folder and make sure I did not overwrite the custom stuff. (Basically following the instructions from wordpress.org)
This works fine. The problem I am still having with the speed (or lack of) of the web host, is that the plugins do not update through the web front-end. The upgrade process starts, puts the site in maintenance mode, and then times out.
I have tried with the WordPress/Plug-in Upgrade Time Out Plug-in but for the moment it seems that I’m stuck with manual uploads.
